WNTE is a software tool that helps testing or demonstrating wireless multi-hop networks that consist of Linux-based nodes. WNTE emulates a multi-hop topology by configuring the nodes that are in fact in transmission range of each other with IPtables MAC-filter rules. Thus, packets received from certain neighbors are not given to the network layer, but are discarded instead. The topology to be emulated can be set and visualized with a Qt-based GUI (see figure below). To apply the topology, WNTE configures the MAC-filter rules of all nodes via a secure shell login.
